Dew Tour vert ramp

6-29-2007 - We've been able to test out the first of the 5 different Dew Tour ramps and I'm not completely impressed with it. I think it's cool to have something different on the ramp so it doesn't look and ride just like every other vert comp. Maybe it was the wind or the sun in my eye's but it just isn't as fast or smooth as the ramp was last year, I'm a bit disapointed. Hopefully it'll be better in Cleveland in July.
I got knocked out at the first Dew Tour trying a triple whip that shouldn't have been in that run or tried at that height. The real point of this is that I cracked my helmet in that crash and I'm lucky I had a full face helmet on. My Bell helmet was brand new, only wore it for about an hour and it did exactly what it was supposed to... break before my head does. If I had an open faced helmet I most likely would've lost my jaw and a quite a few teeth. Please wear your full face helmet on vert.

2/15/2007 - new vert ramp design

The Dew Action Sports Tour has adopted a new vert ramp for the 2007 season of competition. I'm not sure if it's a final design because I was busy with my wife having a baby at the hospital while the vert meeting was happening in Vegas. Reports came back to me that there will be 2 size transitions, larger roll in for the 15 foot tall side of the ramp, a channel and slightly bowled ends similar to the ramp at Woodward West. We'll see what actually gets built or how the progress is going on this design. As soon as I get a drawing of the new ramp I'll post it up here for you to look at. Can't wait to see what comes out of all this planning ahead of time. Time will tell and the new series is coming up soon.

Brian Cunningham & 2 friends(Brad Gethard & Grant McVagn) are going to be in town that weekend so they'll be hitting up some vert with us.

If you plan to fly to Camp Woodward, check on plane tickets as soon as you can and often since the price can fluctuate rapidly. The State College airport is small, the airport code is SCE. The next airport to fly into would be Harrisburg, PA (MDT) and it's a 1 1/2 hour drive to either camp or to State College.
If you can't fly into State College, try to get in touch with some of the other riders showing up to see if anyone else is flying into Harrisburg , Philly or Pittsburgh.
Philly, Pittsburgh & D.C. are about a 3 hour drive from State College.

Getting yourself to camp is up to you. If it works out that a few of you are showing up at the same time, we might be able to get something worked out for someone at camp to pick all of you up but it will cost you since they don't have a full staff of people to handle this type of stuff.

Vert Gathering 2006 is all done, behind us but you never know when another one will be upon us. This is helping get vert riders to stick together as a whole and to make changes that the riders see fit.
With help from all the people on the list to the left the vert weekend had an impact on ramp design for amateurs, ramp design for the pro ramps that are seen on TV at the Dew Tour and X Games. It's cool to be a part of something that makes a difference and even though it may not be an immediate change, that's ok cause it's going to be better for the next generation of vert riders. I figure if the average age of vert riders is about 30 then we're years ahead of the park and dirt guys, we should set an example of how to get things organized and taken care of the right way. There's no reason we can't progress our sport in a way that suits us, all we really want to do is ride so why make it so difficult. I think the ramp changes that we spoke about at the meeting will be a happy medium between what the skaters want and what the bikers want. Now that Nate Wessel is building the vert ramp for X Games it'll get done right. He's very open to suggestions from everyone involved and doesn't take sides, he just wants to build a really cool ramp.

Full face helmet required, no exceptions so don't even ask. You will be kicked off the vert ramp if you're wearing a skate lid and asked to leave.

This is an invitation only get together, NOT a competition. You must go through me in order to get invited.

Who it's for: Vert riders or people looking to get more into vert. I already have a list of pro vert riders that are showing up but I'm looking for all riders that are motivated and not in it for a free trip to Woodward. Camp is not officially open so you need to be at least 18 years old or have your parents with you. We do not have the staff on hand to take care of and manage minors.

What: Vert riding & a discussion on Saturday morning about the direction of pro vert & also the direction of am vert. Ramp size, ramp design, additions to the ramp... bring your ideas or send them to me and I'll have everything ready for Sat morning to talk about. Other than that, it's going to be a lot of time on the ramps.

When: Friday December 15th - Monday the 18th
Some people will be flying in Thursday evening to take advantage of 3 or 4 full days of riding. Others have real jobs and can't show up till Friday night and have to leave Monday morning. Either set up is fine but I do need to know your trip itinerary to make plans for rooms at camp.

Where: Woodward East
134 Sports Camp Dr
Woodward, PA 16882

Why: We're lacking new blood in the vert class and as more and more guys retire from competition... it's going to leave a small selection of guys on the vert ramp. I'd like to see more kids ride vert, I hear from kids that there is interest in riding vert but they are intimidated. It's also another reason for those of us that ride pro vert to get a big vert session to go down.

I have the camp blocked out for us so there will not be anyone but vert riders showing up for the gathering so we'll all have a good weekend of riding. The meeting on Saturday morning isn't mandatory but it would be nice to get some ideas from those of you that have any and want to contribute. Send them to me prior to the gathering and I'll get it all worked out before the meeting. I'm thinking it's only going to be a couple hours on Sat morning and the rest of our discussions can be on top of the ramp while riding.
E-Mail me at <contactkagy@mac.com> to get in on it. If this site has spread to people that I don't know personally then you will need a reference to get in on this. I need to speak to someone that can vouch for your vert riding desire to prove that you're in this for vert riding with us and not just a weekend to Woodward.
